Homeward Drift — A narrative short film exploring complex emotional themes
Homeward Drift
Predominant Roles: Video Editor and Colorist
Unique Challenge Faced: The script called for a lot of flashback/ montage scenes, and we wanted to think of a way to make them feel unique. Guy Richie was a big inspiration in coming up the style we landed on and integrated throughout the entire short film.
Soul of the Cross — A short Italian film with dramatic cuts and a build-up of tension
Soul of the Cross
A short film created by 12 students with the help of a few locals in Campiglia Marittima, Italy in two weeks on a college sanctioned film trip.
Predominant Role: Video Editor
Secondary Role: On-Set PA
Unique Challenge Faced: While the script was written in english and the translated into Italian for our actors, I was working off an old version of the scrip while editing and our actors where translated an updated script on set on the fly. This caused a lit of challenges, and headaches, while editing seeing as I do not speak any Italian, but it also gave me a unique experience. Instead of relying on words and traditional editing methods, I focused instead on body language and emotion to drive cuts and pacing, especially when I could not figure out translation fast enough.
The Banshee — A short horror film edit with atmospheric tension
The Banshee
After her brothers sudden death, a young archaeologist struggles between allowing herself to grieve and helping her brother-in-law defeat the supernatural force he believes are to blame.
Awards: Selected at the Colorado Short Circuit Film Festival and Ravenwood Film Festival and a Finalist at the Merced Queer Film Festival.
Predominant Roles: Video Editor and Colorist
Secondary Role: VFX Artist
Unique Challenge Faced: The predominant challenge in this short film was the pacing. The story itself is inherently slow and does not have much action occurring. It focused intently on dialogue and characters emotions/ connections. This plus the lack of diversity in the cinematography led to a lot of shot reverse shot in the editing which git monotonous fast. Solutions included title cards, intercutting other scenes in ‘flashback sequences’, and simply shortening the scenes but cutting out chunks out unneeded dialogue.
5:1 Documentary — A documentary exploring complex themes
5:1 Documentary
The documentary, 5:1, explores the differing opinions of both males and females regarding the gender gap between second-year filmmaking students at Champlain College.
Awards: 3rd Place in the WRIF Emerging Filmmakers Contest 2021
Predominant Roles: Producer and Video Editor
Secondary Role: Assistant Director
Unique Challenge Faced: As is the case with any discussion surrounding the gender gap, getting the gentlemen to willing open up proved to be a challenge on set. As well as assuring them and sticking to not misconstruing their words while editing, as that was a large concern for many of the male participants.
Fabric and Time — A short narrative film that will transport you in time
Fabric and Time
Having spent her whole life in the 1950’s, a seamstress at a government time travel agency, falls in love with a modern day time traveller.
Awards: Selected for and nominated by the Merced Queer Film Festival in 2022.
Predominant Roles: Video Editor and Colorist
Secondary Role: VFX Artist
Unique Challenge Faced: The visual effects (mainly the teleportation effect) required a lot of reshoots. A grander effect with camera movement and CGI was planned and ultimately, due to time constraints, were forced to be downgraded to match cuts and practical effects.
A Death in the Friendship — A short narrative film with emotional twists
A Death in the Friendship
A young woman struggles to grieve the loss of a toxic friend the morning of his funeral.
Predominant Roles: Video Editor and Colorist
Unique Challenge Faced: Color grading proved to be the biggest challenge for this short film. Specifically the scenes in the house and in the bedroom. The director wanted a desaturated, yet sepia toned look. It took a few rounds of revision to really get the look dialed it.
